Besides breathing, grieving is one of the most natural things that we do. We are designed with the capacity to grieve, and we intuitively know how to do it. Yes, it is sad, gut-wrenching, and hurts our hearts, but it is organic. Thus, grieving is not the problem, it is our relationship to it, a relationship that is largely impacted by the societal undervaluing of vulnerability.
2020 has quickly become the year of all things breath related, from Covid-19’s attack on our lungs and needing to breath through a mask, to the Black Lives Matter slogan #ICantBreathe, from the last words of Eric Garner, to the book Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor. We no longer can take our breath for granted. The truth is, we should never have taken our breath for granted.
Breathwork is a powerful way to access your body’s innate intelligence to heal itself. Breathwork, the conscious awareness of your breath, is a practice that is thousands of years old, and while there are many variations, styles and names, all types of breathwork offer the chance for personal transformation through improved mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
We are energy. We are vibrating electromagnetic beings. The power to raise and shift our frequency is ours. Our frequency is our energy, our vibration, our consciousness. It is what we feel and what we emit in the world. Our frequency shapes our reality. In this article, we’ve outlined eleven ways you can learn to change your energy or frequency and shift into a greater level of consciousness and begin to live life from this place of higher vibration.
There are one thousand and one health hacks out there, but their efficacy is limited if you haven’t created a healthy foundation to build from. Just as putting high performance tires on a car with a broken engine will not yield much result, biohacking a system that doesn’t have the basics covered will similarly not give you large improvements. In such a fast paced world it is paramount we understand simple techniques to influence our health and well-being.
The breath reconnects us to ourselves. It heals us. It allows us to tap into who we truly are. However, it is often left on autopilot, leaving us to pay little attention to the depth or quality of our breathing. The pandemic has awakened within me a dedication to Radical Self Care practices, as well as the intention to share knowledge with my BIPOC community. The flood light on the injustice around access to breath has never shined brighter—from police brutality to environmental hazards causing asthma and overcrowded detention centers/prisons—breathing while Black is a radical act in itself.
Raising your frequency is a love language to elevate your entire well-being.
